The Root Chakra is the first Chakra
Location: At the perineum, between the sex organs and the anus
Sanskrit name: Muladhara
Associated Color: Red A
Associated Body Parts: Adrenal glands, kidneys, spinal column, leg bones
Imbalances: The root chakra is related to the anus and the adrenal glands. When poorly grounded, your spatial understanding is impaired. You may stumble around physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Grounding enhances your ability to function effectively on a day-to-day basis. When this Chakra is imbalanced, one might start feeling afraid of life, withdraw from physical reality, feel victimized, operate in a highly selfish mode or be prone to violence. Physical symptoms include problems in the feet, legs and lower back.
Function: This Chakra roots us in the physical world as represented in our physical existence. A balanced Root Chakra results in a healthy desire for basic requirements, such as warmth, food and shelter.
When the root chakra is blocked an individual may feel fearful, anxious, insecure and frustrated. Problems like obesity, anorexia nervosa, and knee troubles can occur. Root body parts include the hips, legs, lower back and sexual organs.
